A Grant County firefighter was critically hurt battling a residential blaze
Wednesday afternoon. Firefighter Sidney Hall from the Upland Fire Department
fell through a hole and into the basement while battling the blaze in rural
Grant County. Hall was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital with critical
injuries. Seven other firefighters were hurt trying to rescue Hall, with
most suffering from smoke inhalation. They were all taken to Marion General
Hospital, where one is being held for observation. The state fire marshal’s
office is investigating the fire’s cause.
Kyle Kirby began his first day on the job Wednesday as Marion High Schools new principal. The 30-year-old Marion native takes over from Jack Gardner, who left to become principal at Logansport High School.
The Fishers Town Council has approved a contract to secure entertainment for the Fishers Summer Concert Series. RizingStar Entertainment is scheduling the performers, which include the likes of Carl Storie. The series runs from June 5 to July 24 at the Town Hall complex. Admission is free to all events.
New Delaware County Commissioners President John Brooke outlined his goals for the next two years during Wednesdays commissioners meeting. He says economic development, stronger ties to Ball State University and consolidation of city-county services are among the priorities.
Brett Foster has been named president of the Cicero Town Council for this year. Last years president, Carl Harvey, was elected vice-president.
A 15-year prison sentence has been given to a former Middletown police officer for producing images harmful to children. Eric Rinehart, 34, will also be on federal probation once hes released from prison.
A ten-year suspended prison sentence and ten years of probation have been given to an Elwood woman for her involvement in an overdose death three years ago. Rae-Anna Harting, 30, was charged with dealing a controlled substance. Harting, who suffers from a degenerative spinal disease, allegedly provided part of a morphine patch to Kayla Davidson, 23, in early October of 2005. The patch likely led to the overdose that contributed to Davidsons death according to a pathologist.
A Mexican man faces charges in Madison County resulting from a New Years Day brawl. Omar Jimenez, 26, allegedly bit a chunk of skin and meat from another mans face during the fight outside the home of the victims sister. The victim could suffer permanent, disfiguring injuries as a result of the incident.
The Delaware County Commissioners have appointed an opponent of the Ag Bio Vision Park to the city-county planning commission. Gary Alexander is also a critic of concentrated animal feeding operations or CAFOs. Republican Commissioner Tom Bennington opposed the appointment, while Democrats John Brooke and Larry Bledsoe voted for it.
