House Republicans have unveiled a road funding plan calling for increases in gas and cigarette taxes, and a registration fee for electric vehicles. Madison County sheriff’s deputies were involved in police action shooting Wednesday morning. Sheriff Scott Mellinger says deputies were serving an eviction order when the individual pointed a semi-automatic weapon at officers. Gunfire was exchanged, but no one was injured. Family members of the suspect say he suffers from mental illness.

An Elwood man has been arrested after being accused of inappropriate sexual contact with an 8-year-old relative. Police arrested 18-year-old Dylan Andrew Rexford, and charged him with Level 3 child molest and Level 4 incest. According to interviewers, the incident happened at the victim’s home just before Christmas.
A Dunkirk teenager convicted of rape has been sentenced to two years in prison. 17-year-old Izaha M. Baker was charged in August in connection with an assault that took place on June 1. A Muncie teenager has been arrested for carrying a stolen handgun. 19-year-old Britton Devon Kirkland was being questioned after police received a report about possible car break-ins in the Whitely neighborhood. Kirkland told officers he bought the 45-caliber handgun for $150 from “someone he didn’t know”. The gun had been reported stolen in October 2013.
