Sobriety Checkpoints Friday

Local, county and state law enforcement agencies will be conducting sobriety checkpoints tomorrow. The departments are teaming up in an effort to take impaired drivers off the roads. Look for checkpoints in both Hamilton and Henry Counties tomorrow evening through the early hours of Saturday.

RR Crossing On Bypass To Get New Signage

The Indiana Department of Transportation has awarded a $530,000 contract for various intersection and railroad crossing improvements. The funding will pay for projects in Muncie including the installation of advanced warning signage near the railroad crossing at the Muncie bypass between Cowan Road and Walnut Street.

DWNTWN Muncie’s 2016 St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place at 6 this evening. The parade route will begin at the Muncie Central Fieldhouse parking lot and proceed South on Walnut, East on Charles, North on Mulberry, West on Seymour and will return North on Walnut Street back to the Fieldhouse.

Hernandez Gets 25 Years In Stabbing Death

Its 25 years in prison for a Muncie man. 48-year-old Juan Hernandez was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the January 2015 slaying of Mark Hittson. The judge Tuesday handed Hernandez the 25 year term, calling the attack a “brutal, vicious (and) callous” killing. The victim was stabbed 23 times, 11 in the back.

Anderson; Former Mayor Targeted In Lawsuit

A class-action lawsuit for unlawful termination against the City of Anderson and former Mayor Kevin Smith after 11 people in his city office were fired after he took office in 2012.
