School Enrollment Continues To Decline

School population continues to decline: Muncie Schools lost 98 students this past school year, and the district has a $16.75 million deficit, according to an outside financial review. MCS is working to reduce the deficit by providing the same services to students at a lower cost, according to the Superintendent.

New A.D. For Anderson High School

The Anderson University director of alumni relations is taking a new job as director of athletics at Anderson High School. Colin Short will join Steve Schindler in leading the athletic program. Short is a 1996 Anderson High School graduate. He begins July 1st.

Mission Has New Director

The Grant County Rescue Mission has a new executive director who hopes to bring transparency to the nonprofit organization. Ray Raines has taken over as interim director for the Mission and he’s already been busy bringing the Mission’s buildings up to code and trying to regain the trust of the community.

Boy Dies At Indiana Beach

A Mishawaka family’s trip to Indiana Beach turned tragic Tuesday morning when a tree branch crashed onto the family’s tent, fatally injuring a 10-year-old boy. He was not breathing when first-responders arrived. He was rushed to a Monticello hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Italian Company Granted 5 Year Option

The Anderson Redevelopment Commission has approved a five-year option for Italian company Italpollina to purchase additional property for future expansion. Italpollina is planning to start production in 2017 of a soybean-based fertilizer in Anderson. The option to purchase is on an additional 10 acres to the west of the facility currently under construction.
