Fight to Remove Yorktown City Official Continues

The ongoing drama over the city of Yorktown trying to fire Clerk-Treasurer Beth Neff is not over. The state Attorney General office filed a notice to appeal this week, trying to get a Delaware County judge’s ruling overturned. Four weeks ago, Judge Marianne Vorhees ruled that Neff would remain in office, because removing her would violate the state constitution. Delaware Co. Prosecutor Jeffrey Arnold argued in court in late July that accused Neff of failing “to reconcile books on a monthly basis for 48 months,” causing more than $3M in posting errors. Vorhees ruled that if Neff was to be removed from office, that should be up to the same people who put her in that position- the voters. Neff has been the town’s clerk-treasurer for the past decade.
