High Temps Putting Power Grids To The Test

Extremely hot temperatures this week are putting power grids to the test. The Star Press reports, I&M’s parent company,
PJM reported last month that it was prepared to serve a forecasted summer peak demand of about 149,000 megawatts, but has performed reliability studies at even higher loads – in excess of 157,000 MW. PJM has about 185,000 MW of installed generating capacity available to meet customer needs.
