With 220 bridges to maintain, the Madison County commissioners are considering raising the tax rate to fund maintenance and replacement. According to the Herald Bulletin, commissioners are considering boosting the Cumulative Bridge Fund tax rate to 0.450 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, an uptick from .35 cents. A vote on the proposed increase and the continuation of the public hearing has been set for 10 a.m. May 2.
