Grocery Store, Car Dealership Appealing to Muncie Zoning Board

A new grocery store set to go in on Galliard is asking the city of Muncie for a special zoning exception. Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market wants to put up a 12-foot-tall monument sign. The problem? That’s four feet higher than allowed by the community landscape ordinance. The Zoning Appeals Board is scheduled to hear the petition on Thursday. The board will also consider a request from the Toyota dealership at McGalliard and Nebo Road. They’re asking for a variance to replace a 30-feet-tall pylon sign with another similar, lighted sign at the exact same spot. They need the variance because that same ordinance Fresh Thyme is fighting also bans pylon signs.
