Santa Claus is getting prepared for his big night, but he will stop by Muncie’s Fire Station today

Yorktown superintendent Dr. Greg Hinshaw told WMUN’s “Delaware County Today” whatever effects come from the new property tax bill won’t be felt until tax collection takes place in 2026. But, he added, nothing will fundamentally change about the way administrators approach their jobs regardless of budget surpluses or deficits.

Ball State’s student-athletes posted a combined grade-point average of 3.489 during the fall semester, a record high for the athletic department in a single term. It marked the ninth straight semester the Cardinals have recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher.

Santa Claus is getting prepared for his big night, but he will stop by Muncie’s Fire Station 1 today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to greet children, take photos and hand out some holiday treats. The “Tiny” Adams Memorial “Pictures With Santa” event is free to the public.

The landscape is rapidly changing in Indiana, with education focused more on meeting students where they are and less on a one-size-fits-all approach. Ivy Tech’s Levi Lawson told Oldies 101’s “Anderson Journal” morning show the community college has always believed in focusing on the individual student’s needs.

The Star Press says Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman’s request to dismiss disorderly conduct charges against Keegan M. Bassett, Zoe-Rose C. Dieguez, Jax C. Dodds and Joshua M. Souza stemming from a February protest at Ball State has been accepted. A fifth defendant, Cooper Philip Archer, also had his charges dropped, but that case has been sent to the Indiana Court of Appeals.

A near century-old football rivalry is not continuing in 2026. Notre Dame and USC were unable to reach an agreement to play again next season. The teams have played each other for the greater part of the last 100 years in a battle for the Jeweled Shillelagh trophy. This week, Notre Dame announced a home-and-home series with BYU for 2026 and 2027.

Anderson’s water system overhaul and superfund sites were the most talked about Madison County story of 2025, according to community organizer Kellie Kelly. She told Oldies 101’s “Anderson Talks” that’s likely to be true again in 2026.

Spartech is closing its Muncie factory, a move the Star Press says will mean the loss of 125 jobs. A letter to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development dated Dec. 12 says layoffs are scheduled to begin Dec. 23. Mayor Dan Ridenour told the newspaper employees agreeing to remain through the closing of the plant on Feb. 13 will receive bonuses.

Lapel visits Yorktown in boys high school basketball competition Saturday, and WMUN will have full coverage with the pre-game show beginning around 7 p.m. and tip-off expected about 7:30. A free TV-style broadcast will stream at www.ihsaatv.org/woofboom.
