A New Castle man is dead after shooting a cop in the chest. 24-year-old Jarred Burke, of New Castle, was a suspect in a report of car break-ins. When police found him, he tried to flee. A K-9 office brought him down. But, when police called off the dog and tried to apprehend Burke, he pulled out a handgun and shot the officer in the chest at close range. The cop returned fire. Both the officer and the suspect were taken to the hospital where Burke later died.
