Storms leave swaths of damage in Madison County

ANDERSON — High winds and heavy rain that moved through Madison County late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning left swaths of damage in their wake.
Reports of structural damage are emerging — including the loss of a roof on a building on Fletcher Street on the city’s south side.
Felled trees and power lines blocked several roadways, and debris covered many roads.
Anderson Community Schools, Anderson Preparatory Academy and Liberty Christian cancelled in-person classes as widespread power outages were reported.
Radar indicated 118 mph winds near Anderson late Wednesday night, and The Herald Bulletin reported a gust of 87 mph was measured near Lapel.
This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
