Anderson fire investigators believe a crane operator struck something in a scrapyard that led to a small explosion and a fire this week. It happened at the Newco Metals facility on East 22nd Street. Heavy black smoke was seen coming from the facility and back up was called. Firefighters used about 80,000 gallons of water to get the blaze under control.
