Some cities and towns have already cancelled fireworks, but Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour told us again yesterday, his intent is to do them for Muncie, and Prairie Creek.  Dunkirk is also reportedly pressing on with their plans, according to a Facebook post over the weekend  – and are seeking donations, which can be dropped off at their fire station.

The Indiana Republican Party announced that the 2020 Indiana Republican State Convention will shift to a virtual format. This follows a unanimous vote by the Indiana Republican State Committee last month to approve temporary rules to allow for this convention structure.  In order to provide delegates and all Hoosiers with access to all major components of an in-person convention, the convention will be livestreamed and broadcast live by WISH-TV and its statewide news partners on June 18 from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Voting will be conducted by mail, with delegates receiving ballots around June 22, which will then be returned to an independent accounting firm by July 9.

On Monday, it was announced that Attorney General Curtis Hill will have his law license suspended for 30 days and will be automatically reinstated after that time period. Senate Democratic Leader Tim Lanane (D-Anderson) released the following statement following the ruling:  “The decision of the Indiana Supreme Court to suspend Curtis Hill from the practice of law reinforces the need for Mr. Hill to resign his position. In addition, the ruling points out one thing clearly: All of this occurred because of Curtis Hill’s poor decision-making and deplorable actions.”

Ball State University’s Courtney Helmlinger, a fourth-year landscape architecture student from St. Mary’s, Ohio, has received both the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Council of Fellows Scholarship and the Rain Bird Intelligent Use of Water Scholarship.  After graduating from Ball State in May 2021, she plans to pursue a career in community development, with a focus on regional planning, promotion of sustainable solutions, and advocacy for equitable design.

The next relief bill could be ready for the U.S. House to vote on as soon as Friday. But, Congressman Jim Banks, says he will not vote for any bill that is full of earmarks and bailouts for states that have built up budget deficits after decades of unwise spending. Banks said on Facebook Live the price tag of the current bill could be as high as 2-trillion-dollars and that more could be added to the bill. Banks said he believes House Democrats have put out an open invitation to lawmakers to add what they want to the bill.

The Indiana Air National Guard will make an appearance Wednesday afternoon in Logansport in Kokomo.

Some have started to call it the CCP Virus – or Chinese Communist Party Virus – whatever you call it, over the past three weeks the number of deaths in Madison County associated has been on the decline, according to death certificates at the Madison County Health Department.  Since April 19, only 15 people in the county have died from COVID-19.  With more testing taking place, the number of people who test positive for the coronavirus is expected to increase.

The Taylor University baseball program will host Prospect Camps at Winterholter Field on Saturday, August 8 and 15 from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. The camps are open to high school students and limited to 60 participants per camp.   The camps will consist of positional evaluations, athletic testing and a live scrimmage.  In addition, participants will have the opportunity to eat lunch with current Taylor baseball student-athletes and receive a tour of the baseball facilities.

Local units of government will be receiving an additional $1.3 million through a distribution of local income tax revenues from the state.  Madison County Auditor Rick Gardner told the Herald Bulletin  Monday the Indiana Department of Revenue holds some of the local income tax funds in an escrow account.  Madison County is receiving just over $530,000. The city of Anderson will receive a little more than $480,000. Elwood will get about $73,000, and Alexandria will receive roughly $41,000.

The airline industry is having an “apocalyptic” moment that could force a major U.S. carrier out of business, according to Boeing president and CEO David Calhoun.  In an interview with host Savannah Guthrie that aired Tuesday on “TODAY,” Calhoun said the threat posed to the airline industry by the coronavirus “is grave” and that it could take 3-5 years to recover from the impact of the global pandemic.
