Grant County sheriff’s deputies have identified the victim of a shooting death of a Muncie man at a home near Gas City. Authorities said Steven Nickell, 33, was pronounced dead in a house in the 6100 block of South Grant County Road 500-E.Deputies, Indiana State Police troopers and officers from the Gas City and Fairmount police departments went to that address after a man called 911 dispatchers about 1 p.m. to report he had “shot and killed an intruder,” according to a press release issued by the sheriff’s department. Authorities found Nickell’s body on the floor near the home’s back door. Initial reports indicated he had been shot in the head and torso.Two subjects found outside the home were taken into custody. One, 39-year-old Matthew Whitt of Wabash, has been arrested on a warrant accusing him of a parole violation.
