Madison County Council Cuts Sheriff’s Department, Jail Budget

Madison County will gain one new correctional officers and funding for five vehicles, but not most of what the sheriff requested. According to the Herald Bulleting, council shot down the majority of a request for three new road deputies for the Sheriff’s Department, seven new correctional officers for the jail and money to purchase up to 15 new patrol cars. The Sheriff’s Department and jail budgets was cut by $1.3 million.
