With Thursday’s finale of The Big Bang Theory and Sunday’s end of Game of Thrones, viewership for major television events is slowly eroding and the era of a “share experience” has passed, says Dom Caristi, a telecommunications professor at Ball State University. For example, in1983 more than 100 million people watched the final episode of M*A*S*H; while Game of Thrones has never had an episode that reached even 13 million viewers.
