Congress is back to work today and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is preparing a vote on President Trump’s proposal to reopen the government. McConnell has pledged only to bring bills to the floor that have the president’s support.
There have been two deadly avalanche incidents in a matter of days. Two skiers trapped last week in an avalanche in Taos, New Mexico have both died. And in Colorado on Monday, a man was killed in an avalanche southeast of Ashcroft.
Democrats are expected to be united against the president’s offer to re-open the government. It includes the same five point seven billion dollar wall funding request that the president has previously asked for, as well as temporary protections for certain immigrant groups.
Today is day six of the strike by teachers in the nation’s second-largest school district. Talks are expected to continue between the Los Angeles Unified School District and United Teachers Los Angeles.
