He has formed an exploratory committee to consider running for mayor of Anderson. The Herald Bulletin reports that Madison County Auditor Rick Gardner is the first Republican to create a committee to consider running for the office. Gardner was elected to the Madison County Council in 2014 and then ran successfully for auditor in 2016. Incumbent Democrat Mayor Thomas Broderick Jr. is expected to seek a second term.
