The carillon bells in Shafer Tower will toll 21 times at 11 a.m. Sunday, November 11, as part of the nationwide Bells of Peace: A World War I Remembrance. 2018 is the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended the Great War. It was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. The World War I Centennial Commission – along with the Pritzker Military Museum and Library, the Society of the Honor Guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the National Cathedral, the American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars – is urging communities to toll the bells as a reminder of the sacrifice and service of all veterans.
