Two Dead; Three Seriously Injured In Crash Near Gaston

Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a fatal vehicle crash on N Wheeling Ave. at
CR 950 N at about 3:30 Tuesday afternoon. A southbound white 2005 Ford Focus sedan traveling
on N Wheeling Ave. crossed the centerline and struck a northbound white 2014 Ford Focus
sedan at the CR 950 N intersection and rolled over. The driver and front-seat passenger of the
southbound vehicle suffered fatal injuries in the crash. A female passenger in critical
condition was flown by helicopter from the scene to St. Vincent’s in Indianapolis. Another
male passenger was transported to IU Ball Memorial Hospital also in critical condition. The
driver of the northbound sedan was transported in serious condition to IU Ball Memorial
Hospital.
Evidence collected at the scene by Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Team investigators
indicated speed, alcohol and possibly illicit drugs were likely contributing factors in the crash.
The victims of the crash are:
Joshua Hartley, 18, driver of southbound vehicle, fatality.
Matthew Case, 28, front passenger of southbound vehicle, fatality.
Lydia J. Astrop, 18, passenger of southbound vehicle, airlifted in critical condition.
Jacob Hartley, 18, passenger of southbound vehicle, transported in critical condition.
Benjamin Parsons, 68, driver of northbound vehicle, transported in serious condition.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
