In Anderson, they’re trying to protect people from the cold by activating warming centers for residents. Community Hospital Anderson, 1515 N. Madison Ave., and St. Vincent Anderson Hospital, 2015 Jackson St., are open from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. when temperatures are 31 degrees or lower for two days, or a wind chill advisory of negative 5 to 19 degrees has been issued and wind speeds are about 10 mph or more, or when wind chill values will reach minus 20 degrees or colder, with wind speeds around 10 mph or more. The only warming center in Madison County open 24 hours is St. Vincent Mercy Hospital, 1331 South A St., in Elwood.
