A new grocery store coming to McGalliard Road in Muncie won’t be getting any special treatment from the city. The Metropolitan Board of Zoning Appeals rejected Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market’s request for a sign that would have been taller than allowed by city standards. A company representative had argued that the store’s location- sitting back off the road- made it necessary for a 12-foot tall sign. But according to a city zoning ordinance, the height limit along that stretch of McGalliard is only 8 feet. The city banned new pole signs along commercial corridors several years ago, after public outcry.
