House OK’s State Takeover Of MCS

The notion of putting Muncie Community Schools under state oversight has been approved by the Indiana House. The vote taken Wednesday night was 64-30. The Star Press reports that while Muncie Democrat Sue Errington argued that area residents feel blind-sided by the situation, the Republican majority prevailed. Representative Melanie Wright said the district has proven that it can improve its academic performance in the past eight years and should be allowed to pull itself out of the fiscal hole it’s in currently.
