In what has become an ongoing debate for county officials, Madison County Sheriff Scott Mellinger says he would support a tax increase to construct a new jail. According to the Herald Bulletin, the County Council approved the sheriff’s request for funding to pay for inmates being housed in another county because of limitations at the current Madison County lock-up.
