For the second consecutive month, Madison County Sheriff Scott Mellinger is asking the Madison County Council for funding to house inmates out of county. Mellinger says that right now 60 inmates are sleeping on the floor due to overcrowding at the jail. Mellinger is asking the county to pay for housing the overflow inmates in Blackford County at a cost of $35 per day. The Madison County lock-up is designed to house a maximum of 207 occupants.
