State lawmakers have amended a bill to allow electric carmaker Tesla continue to sell directly to consumers in the state, instead of through dealerships, but ban other companies from doing so going forward. The state House transportation committee amended and approved the bill Thursday. Supporters say that without such restrictions, foreign automakers could sell directly without accountability or adequate repair facilities. Detractors say such restrictions stifle innovation.
