Muncie man takes plea in drug case, prepares for murder trial

A Muncie man preparing for his murder trial in Indianapolis was back in Delaware County yesterday in another case, this time of drug possession. 27-year-old Martize Kirkland took a plea deal and sentencing is set for January 14th. His trial in Marion County is set to begin this month for the death of 23-year-old Jeremy Johnson of Muncie. Police say Kirkland lured the victim to an abandoned house in Indy and killed him over drugs. Johnson’s decomposed remains were found on the east side of Indy last June, nearly 9 months later.
