Found Safe: More on that Amber Alert from Friday Morning

Friday morning’s Amber Alert was canceled around 9:45 a.m., when the two year old was found safe. Later that day, WNDU-TV reported that suspect Dwayne Clemons was taken into custody following a standoff with law enforcement. Online records show Clemons was being held Friday evening in the Starke County Jail on a parole violation. See more of the story on our Local News page today. According to the Starke County Sheriff’s Office, a female victim was dropped off at a local hospital Thursday, Feb. 5 suffering from head trauma. Investigators later learned that the victim had been assaulted by her husband, Dwayne Clemons. After the alleged assault, Clemons dropped his wife off at the hospital and fled the area with their 2-year-old son — who was also in the vehicle. The sheriff’s office said Clemons was armed with a handgun as he fled with his child.   Overnight, a search warrant was executed at the Clemons’ home, however, neither the man or his child were found there. That’s when police entered the 2-year-old as a missing person, and an Amber Alert was issued.
