Crisis Center celebrates with open house, ribbon cutting

MUNCIE — Years of effort came to fruition Monday with a ribbon-cutting and open house for the Muncie Community Crisis Center.
A partnership between the City of Muncie and Meridian Health Services, the new facility utilizes trained professionals in several fields to help break the cycle of hospitalization and incarceration for those facing addiction and mental health challenges.
Meridian’s Lisa Suttle was excited to see the large group of supporters on hand for the open house.
The crowd included Muncie mayor Dan Ridenour, state senator Scott Alexander and a host of business and community leaders.
The crisis center is a unique facility for a city of Muncie’s size.
But Suttle said its partnership with local law enforcement — including on-site officers — is even more unique.
Clients currently can be referred through several sources, including police and emergency rooms, but the goal is to include opportunities for walk-ins in the future.
