The Force Wants To Keep Their Name, and Jan. 28, 2025 Local News

Strong feelings about marching band –  Social media buzz over the weekend that the Winchester Winterguard has been changed to Randolph County Winterguard.  The post by Tina Roberts Bailey sparked much debate about the name The Force – the long standing moniker of the Winchester marching band.  No change known there.

How to make em up – As some schools continue to be impacted by recent cold and winter weather, here is a reminder of the state statute regarding synchronous and asynchronous instructional days. Per statute, schools may have up to three asynchronous learning days each school year – that’s when the schools post lessons and assignments for the kids to complete . Schools are not limited on the number of synchronous days – that’s when Live teacher intervention happens, just on screen instead of in classroom.   Districts are always able to make days up in person using built-in snow days.

Another apartment nightmare situation – University Square Anderson apartment complex residents tell WISH TV they haven’t had heat or hot water in months.  That’s on top of mold, gas leaks, and broken fire alarms.  Residents say health inspectors issued a notice two months ago, but little has changed.

Friday, Delta is at Wapahani on WMUN – Radio and Woof Boom Radio TV, 7 p.m. pregame.

Library worries – Library concerns because of potential state legislation.  The Journal and Courier ran an op ed raising alarm, so we reached out to Senator Scott Alexander, who states SB 283 “would provide oversight to an elected body for a library that that currently operates by an appointed board. If passed as written would also include libraries under the maximum levy. This would provide additional accountability. I don’t believe at this time this bill is moving.”  He went on, “In some areas libraries by their appointed board have had significant increases to taxpayers. This is an effort to provide accountability to an elected board.”

Cards in focus:  Ball State men’s basketball tonight, and the women tomorrow – both 6:40 p.m. pregames on WMUN from Learfield.
