A state board has scheduled a meeting today to appoint an emergency manager of fiscally impaired Muncie Community Schools. The Distressed Unit Appeal Board meeting will take place at 2pm in the Statehouse. Candidates include former longtime superintendent of public instruction and Ball State alumna – Suellen Reed and Stephen Edwards, retired superintendent of Marion Community Schools & former assistant superintendent of schools in Muncie. MCS Superintendent Steve Baule is also a candidate. If MCS becomes financially stable by the end of this calendar year, the emergency manager will be terminated. If progress is not made by then, MCS will be considered a “distressed political subdivision,” not just “fiscally impaired,” and the emergency manager will stay on with even more power.
