Possible Compromise On Cigarette Tax Hike

With the Senate sounding skeptical of a proposed cigarette-tax hike, House Speaker Brian Bosma is floating a possible compromise. Health advocates want to raise the tax a buck-and-a-half-a-pack. The House passed a dollar-a-pack increase, which would bring Indiana essentially even with Illinois and Michigan. Bosma says legislators might consider dialing back the increase to 60 cents, which would match Ohio.
