Madison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal plane crash on Tuesday, November 4th around 12:30pm.  Officers found a single engine plane on fire that struck a tree in front of 4261 N. CR 100W, just north of Anderson.  The pilot was the only occupant and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Madison County Coroner identified him as 79-year-old Robert G. Snider of rural Elwood.

The plane reportedly touched down multiple times in a nearby field before striking the tree at ground level.  Anderson Airport Tower had communication with the pilot shortly before the crash but there was no indication of any trouble.  Initial information indicates the plane was traveling from Rensselaer to Anderson.  The FAA and NTSB have been notified with the area being secured for their investigation.
