Madison County Fugitive in Custody

Madison County Sheriff John Beeman announced the capture of a fugitive from justice yesterday.  He said Steven Sumner has been on the run from law enforcement for over two years until yesterday afternoon.  Investigators from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department along with the US Marshal’s  followed leads to locate Sumner who is wanted on felony warrants in Madison County for Level 1 Felony Child Molest.  Indiana State Police conducted a criminal investigation  that began in August of 2020, resulting in issued warrants.  Sumner absconded in 2023, failing to appear for his case.

Investigators spotted a vehicle Sumner was alleged to be driving and learned the vehicle was near Winchester, Kentucky.  US Marshal’s located the vehicle (a blue 2010 Toyota Yaris) and took Steve Sumner into custody without incident. Steve Sumner was a member of the Madison County Council, but resigned when he was charged. He was alone at the time of his capture.
