Yorktown Water Tower Causes Stir

Social media post by Town of Yorktown:

“A Note on the Water Tower – We’ve heard from many of you about the Yorktown Tiger on our water tower—and we want to take a moment to acknowledge what it has meant to our community.

That image, placed more than two decades ago, came to be through grassroots generosity, community pride, and the dedication of individuals who wanted Yorktown’s spirit to shine bright. It’s more than paint—it’s a piece of our story, and that history matters.

Over the past 20 years, Yorktown has grown—significantly. For a long time, our community’s identity was tied almost entirely to the school, and with good reason. But today, we’ve also become a thriving town in our own right—home to new businesses, expanded neighborhoods, growing infrastructure, and a strong civic identity.

As we prepare to update the water tower and after discussion with your elected Town Council members, the decision has been made to use the crest from the Town of Yorktown logo. Painting a water tower serves a practical purpose: protecting the structure from rust and deterioration. But each time it’s repainted, we also have the chance to reflect on who we are as a community. While we remain incredibly proud of our schools—consistently ranked among the best in the state—this update reflects Yorktown’s broader identity today: a thriving, growing town with strong neighborhoods, vibrant businesses, and a unified spirit. The new design embraces that full picture—honoring our past while representing all that Yorktown has become. It reflects our commitment to a shared identity and to the future we’re building together—resilient, connected, and proud of where we’ve been and where we’re going.

We’re grateful for the passion this community brings to everything it does. That passion is what makes Yorktown special.
Thank you for loving this place. We do too!”—Town of Yorktown
