Proposed Legislation Could Dissolve Townships and Fire Departments
House Bill 1233 in Indiana’s General Assembly is a bill that would dissolve township governments and place powers and duties with an elected county official. That bill also would dissolve fire territories such entities as South Madison and East Madison. South Madison Fire Chief Chris Nodine says there are a lot of unanswered questions, such as how the county officials will acquire the expensive equipment needed to efficiently protect the area. The bill is authored by Republican Rep. Karen Engleman from Harrison County.
