There will be high school football in Indiana this fall. The Indiana High School Athletic Association said Wednesday schools can resume athletics starting July 1st. The IHSAA started to shut down high school sports in the spring because of the coronavirus. Spring sports were canceled last month. Schools can resume school-sponsored activities when school buildings reopen on July 1st.

Dr. Kristina Box of the Indiana State Department of Health spent a lot of time during yesterday’s daily briefing explaining the benefits of hand washing, and masks.  She is aware that many people are uncomfortable and feel masks are unnecessary, but she stressed that if you choose to do so, you are protecting others, as well as yourself.   Our staff at Woof Boom Radio has even employed mask requirements, and we encourage you to so the same.

Wes-Del High School announced yesterday via Tiwtter they will conduct a traditional graduation ceremony on Sunday, July 12th, 2020 @ 3PM.

This coming Wednesday is the target date for completion of that huge I70 project that was fast-tracked due to lower traffic, saving taxpayers a lot of money.  INDOT says they are on track to meet the competition date.

Purdue Polytechnic in Anderson will celebrate graduation soon for one of their largest classes of engineers, ready for the workforce.  You’ll hear from Director Corey Sharp on Woof Boom Radio’s news.

Almost 44,000 people filed for unemployment in Indiana last week, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.  That’s down from 55,774 from the week before, a change of 11,997.  About 612,000 Hoosiers have filed for unemployment over the last seven weeks.

Second Harvest Food Bank announces the following Tailgate Food Distribution events: today, 10:00am – 12:00n at Nazarene Church, Montpelier, and at Living Well in Wabash.  Saturday, 10:00am – 12:00n at Mounds Mall, Anderson.

The Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend will allow public masses to resume May 23rd. Masses will also resume in the Diocese of Lafayette May 30th with similar restrictions, but masses in Evansville, Gary, and Indianapolis are still on hold.

New regulations released this week by the Education Department will change how K-12 schools respond to students’ reports of sexual assault and harassment, requiring administrators to more formally investigate claims, share evidence with accused students and their parents and retain written records of any disciplinary actions for at least seven years.

The Alexandria City Council is considering opening its swimming pool at Beulah Park amid an anticipated wind-down of the first COVID-19 pandemic and the arrival of warmer weather.  But there’s one small twist: No date has been set for the opening because the city Park Department has not yet voted on whether to repair or buy a new pump.  Initially, Alexandria officials had hoped to open the pool for the season on Memorial Day weekend, the traditional time pools are opened for the summer.  Madison County Health Officer Dr. Stephen Wright said Memorial Day weekend may be a little ambitious to open the pool safely.

Evansville-based Atlas Van Lines, has been awarded a portion of a $7.2 billion contract to help relocate U.S. military service members and their families around the globe. The deal could mean the creation of 200 new positions for the southern Indiana employer.

The 28th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, scheduled for May 9, has been postponed.  A new date hasn’t yet been scheduled, but the United States Postal Service, National Association of Letter Carriers, as well as other national partners, have committed to rescheduling the food drive later this year.

The luxury department store chain Neiman Marcus filed for bankruptcy on Thursday, the second major retailer after J.Crew to seek reorganization this week as the industry buckles under widespread store closures.

The Billy Joel concert at Notre Dame Stadium has been rescheduled for June 26, 2021 because of the coronavirus. All tickets purchased for the 2020 concert will be honored on the rescheduled date. The University of Notre Dame made the public aware of the change in a news release sent out Thursday morning.

Congressman Greg Pence (R-6th Dist.) is in Columbus, this week, but he plans on going to Washington, even though the House is not in session. He said he believes he and his colleagues should be working, just the same as the Senate.  “I’m not real sure why I can’t go to work,” he said. “Why the Senate can be out there, going to work, holding hearings, trying to improve things, and Nancy Pelosi and the House of Representatives, we’re gonna stay closed and we’re gonna figure out how to take care of ourselves first,” he said.

Barbara Carson, 26, of Anderson, was arrested Tuesday after an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. Carson was arrested Tuesday after she was caught leaving the Walgreens where she worked with Hydrocodone tablets in her pocket, reports The Star Press newspaper. During an interview with police, Carson admitted to stealing 800 Hydrocodone tablets and 100 Oxycodone tablets over the last few months and selling them. Carson was arrested and taken to the Delaware County Jail.

Governor Holcomb’s “roadmap” for ending coronavirus restrictions still bans mass gatherings till at least the Fourth of July. But Republicans’ June convention is still on, at least for now.  Except for religious services, Holcomb’s order which began loosening restrictions on Monday caps gatherings at 25 people. By the time of Republicans’ convention June 20, that limit is scheduled to go up to just 250. There are more than seven times that many delegates – but are waiting for a few weeks to make the decision.  Democrats announced three weeks ago they’d move their June 13 convention online.
