Additional Three Years For Attacking Prison Guard

An Anderson inmate has received an additional three-year sentence for attacking a guard in the New Castle Correctional Facility. 26-year-old David Lee Smith III had pleaded guilty – but mentally ill – to battery. He will not begin serving that prison term, however, until 2023, after he completes the sentences he is now serving for Madison County convictions for battery, intimidation and theft-related charges.
