Pendleton Appears To Be Hardest Hit By Storms

Severe weather affected much of central Indiana last night as Tornado, Severe Thunderstorm and Flash Flood Warnings were issued as a line of thunderstorms rolled through Monday evening. Pendleton was one of the harder-hit communities – while no serious injuries were reported about 75 homes were damaged, and downed trees and power lines were plentiful.

Emergency crews were going door to door checking all homes after the severe storms swept through Southern Madison County. Residents were asked to stay in their homes and shelter in place. Those suffering damage to their homes took shelter at Pendleton High School.

At one point during Monday’s severe storms all roads to Pendleton were blocked with trees, power lines, and utility poles. Law enforcement setup a police perimeter to keep vehicles out of the town for safety purposes and to allow emergency responders to work. The Pendleton Utility Company and Duke Energy are still making repairs this morning.

In the wake of the storm, South Madison Community Schools have canceled classes today.
