The Madison County Board of Commissioners is getting ready to conduct a study for a new jail. Sheriff Scott Mellinger earlier this year urged the Council to start making plans to replace the current facility built in 1984. Mellinger has indicated that a new jail should be designed to house 500 inmates. The estimated cost is $50 million.
