Lawmakers Pass Watered-Down Hate Crimes Law

Lawmakers passed a controversial hate crimes law Tuesday and sent it to Gov. Eric Holcomb’s desk for his signature. Senate Bill 12 was stripped of language identifying specific characteristics, including race, sexual orientation and gender identity, prompting criticism that the language did not go far enough in protecting potential hate crime victims.
