Operators of local food pantries are keeping an eye on the federal government’s shutdown in anticipation of possible increased need for food, especially among federal government workers and those receiving public assistance. It was announced Friday that SNAP benefits will be extended through the entire month of February. However, benefits for the month will be issued January 19.
