Pence Took Email Heat For Changing Religious Freedom Law

Emails released to The Associated Press show then-Indiana Gov. Mike Pence faced widespread backlash from conservatives after agreeing to change a “religious freedom” law critics decried as anti-gay.

One email slamming Pence reads: “Indiana is fronted by a coward.” It was among more than 1,400 pages of documents the AP obtained under the state’s public records law.

The correspondence from Pence’s official and private email accounts, which the AP first requested when he joined President Donald Trump’s campaign, offer a window into one of the most challenging periods of his political career.
