Storms; Tornadoes; Winds Strike EC Indiana

The clean-up continues after severe thunderstorms rolled through EC Indiana Sunday. Tornadoes, straight-line winds and heavy rains caused much damage and left tens of thousands without power in Madison, Delaware, Blackford, Jay and Grant Counties.

In Sunday’s storms, the Muncie Fieldhouse suffered extensive damage after a section of the facade gave way and crashed through the roof. Wind damage was substantial in the McKinley neighborhood, downtown and Muncie’s west side.

A large tornado was confirmed in Jay County where significant damage was reported in the area of SR 26 and Como Road. Tornado damage was also reported near Dunkirk.

In Madison County, utility lines were down in several locations, including near County Road 1550 North between county roads 300 and 500 West; Indiana 13 at County Road 1300 North; and near County Road 1800 North and County Road 300 East. Some downed lines and standing water led to closed roads.
