Downtown Muncie Shooting Stemmed From Argument in Court, Police Say

A shooting outside a downtown Muncie restaurant yesterday apparently stemmed from a courthouse argument between family members. Police say the shooting stemmed from the Thursday sentencing of 20-year-old Deshaun Jackson. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of conspiracy to commit burglary and attempted burglary on Aug. 2. The victim in the burglary was actually one of Jackson’s family members. According to the Star-Press, in the courtroom yesterday, half of the family seemed to support the victim, the other half supported Jackson. The argument began in court, then spilled out to a restaurant in the 300 block of West Main Street. Shots were fired, one of them hitting 17-year-old Allayzia Jackson. She was transported to the hospital in serious condition, but she later died from her injuries. Police are investigating the shooting and say self-defense may have been involved.
