MadCo Jail Breaks Inmate Population Record

The Madison County Jail set a record last week when the inmate population hit 316. Sheriff Scott Mellinger says 95 percent of the inmates in the jail are awaiting trial – 26 are being housed outside of the county. The Madison County Council has approved an additional $161,000 to pay part-time officers through the end of the year and the funds to hire three more part-time correctional officers.
