It’s a tax just about everyone owes and hardly anyone pays. Legislators haven’t given up on a proposal to start collecting sales tax on Internet purchases. Amazon reached a deal with Indiana to collect sales tax, but many Internet merchants don’t. A Supreme Court ruling says states can’t force companies to collect sales tax unless the company has a “nexus” to the state.
