The Indiana House has given final approval to a measure making the state schools chief an appointed position rather than an elected one. The bill gives the governor’s office authority to appoint the head of the Department of Education beginning in 2025. The House voted 66-31 Tuesday to approve Senate changes and send it to Gov. Eric Holcomb, who has said he supports it.
