Board Votes To Close 3 Elementary Schools

With a 3-2 vote, the Muncie Community Schools’ Board of School Trustees has voted to close Mitchell, Storer and Sutton elementary schools, but keep Northside Middle School open for now. In an emergency meeting Thursday night the board decided to keep Northside open for the 2017-18 school year, giving the community the opportunity to decide if the district can support two middle schools. The decision comes as legislators consider a state takeover of the school corporation amid financial concerns.
