Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler was justified in firing a longtime city worker, according to an arbitrator. Gretchen Chessman was let go for insubordination and filed suit through the American Federation of State, County and Municipal (AFSCME) Council 962. The Star Press reports an arbitrator found that Cheesman failed to obey orders of her superiors in following the schedule for notifications for demolitions and other actions against structures deemed unsafe by the city. Reportedly, she had sent letters offering to tell the mayor about wrongdoing of other city officials if her termination was changed to retirement and her benefits were restored accordingly.
